Founder Andrew Mariani and his team consider themselves “scribes” of the land and the winery is a testament to that. Once we checked in, our host for the afternoon gave us the history of the property (dating back to 1858 all the way through Prohibition) and about the people behind Scribe. But the grown up, hip version of day camp and it was exactly what the doctor ordered. Once I got out of the car, it felt like I had arrived at day camp. Keep going and it leads you to the top of the hill, where the tasting room and picnic tables are. I drove from Sacramento to meet everyone and it only took me an hour and some change – not bad! When arriving at the vineyard, a long row of palm trees guide you to a dilapidated hacienda that makes you feel like you are on a back road in Cuba instead of Sonoma.
